NOBEL LAUREATE ISAAC ISIDOR RABI

“I have come to think that physics is a never-ending quest.”

Isaac Isidor Rabi discovered a method to measure the magnetic properties of atomic nuclei - research that would later be used for the development of MRI and atomic clocks. His contemporaries and mentors included many names that are commonplace in physics textbooks of today. Among those that nominated Rabi for the Nobel Prize are Albert Einstein, Wolfgang Pauli and Enrico Fermi.

During the second world war, Rabi played a part in the development of the atomic bomb, but after it ended he was a vocal critic of nuclear weapons, arguing for them to be limited. A proponent of international cooperation, he also had a significant role in establishing major research laboratories in Brookhaven and CERN.

He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics 1944.

NOBEL COUPLE MARIE & PIERRE CURIE

Take a look at this wedding photo from 26 July 1895 of the most renowned couple in the history of the Nobel Prize: Marie Sklodowska and Pierre Curie – co-recipients of the 1903 Physics Prize for their research on radioactivity (along with Henri Becquerel).

Instead of a bridal gown, Marie wears the very dark blue outfit that would serve her for many years as a laboratory outfit. The couple were given money as a wedding present which they each used to buy a bicycle, and long, sometimes adventurous cycle rides became their way of relaxing. Their life was otherwise filled with work and study.

Marie was awarded her second Nobel Prize in 1911, this time in the chemistry category, for her "advancement of chemistry by the discovery of the elements radium and polonium, by the isolation of radium and the study of the nature and compounds of this remarkable element." She was the first person to be awarded the Nobel Prize twice.

GREAT PLAYWRIGHTS : George Bernard Shaw

George Bernard Shaw, an Irish playwright, was the leading dramatist of his generation. Born on this day in 1856 he was awarded the 1925 Nobel Prize in Literature "for his work which is marked by both idealism and humanity, its stimulating satire often being infused with a singular poetic beauty."

Shaw wrote more than sixty plays including 'Pygmalion' - for which he later won an Oscar for the screenplay. He was the first person to receive both a Nobel Prize and an Academy Award.

GREAT PHILOSOPHERS : JEAN PAUL SARTRE

Jean-Paul Sartre, born on this day in 1905, was the first person to voluntarily decline the Nobel Prize.

In 1964, Sartre was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, but made it known that he did not wish to accept the prize as he had always declined official honours. This was quite unusual in the history of the Nobel Prizes - only once before had a Literature Laureate declined the Nobel Prize. In 1958, Boris Pasternak first accepted the prize, but was later instructed by the authorities of his country (Soviet Union) to decline it.

Sartre was awarded the Nobel Prize "for his work which, rich in ideas and filled with the spirit of freedom and the quest for truth, has exerted a far-reaching influence on our age."

NOBEL LAUREATE S.CHANDRASHEKHAR

Astrophysicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, known as ‘Chandra’, photographed on 19 October 1983, the day he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the evolution of stars.

Chandrasekhar adopted a highly unusual approach to his research, investigating a fresh field of study each decade, such as how stars die, how radiation passes through a star’s atmosphere and the theory of black holes. Each decade he followed a similar routine; writing a series of papers that solved the unsolved problems in that field, before finally publishing a book that summarised his results and presented the whole field in a new and clearer light. However, it is mainly for an early triumph, a theory developed while on a long sea voyage from India to the UK and that began his voyage through the stars, that Chandrasekhar was awarded the 1983 Nobel Prize in Physics.

NOBEL LAUREATE OWEN CHAMBERLAIN

"The development of physics, like the development of any science, is a continuous one. Each new idea is dependent upon the ideas of the past. The whole structure of science gradually grows, but only as it is built upon a firm foundation of past research. Each generation of scientists stands upon the shoulders of those who have gone before."

On this day 101 years ago, the future Nobel Laureate and physicist Owen Chamberlain was born.

Together with Emilio Segrè, Chamberlain confirmed the existence of the proton's antiparticle, the antiproton. They proved its existence by performing an experiment with a powerful particle accelerator in 1955. Four years later, they were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics.

In his banquet speech, Chamberlain speaks about his co-laureate Segrè as well as physicist Eniro Fermi. Chamberlain describes Fermi as "the most intelligent man I have ever met".

Mark Zuckerberg has a lot on his plate. The 36-year-old runs Facebook, the social media giant with a market cap of 855 billion dollars. It is therefore not surprising that the tech CEO has quite a lot to do throughout the day. That being said, Zuckerberg still makes the time to exercise, travel extensively, and spend time with his family. Let's take a look at a day in the life of Mark Zuckerberg. Welcome back to our channel, If you haven’t already, make sure to hit that subscribe button and ring the bell, so that you get notified everytime we upload a new video!

Depending on how you look at it, Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg either have zero work-life balance, or he's actually pretty good at it. After waking up at 8 a.m., the Facebook founder immediately checks Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp on his phone; he told Jerry Seinfeld in a Facebook Live Q&A. Once he's gotten his morning updates, it's time to work out. Zuckerberg typically exercises about three times a week. Sometimes he brings his dog Beast along. The tech CEO says running with his pet has the "added bonus of being hilarious" because it's "basically like seeing a mop run." Beast is a Hungarian sheepdog with quite an impressive coat.
