'BHARAT RATNA' GOVIND BALLABH PANT

Govind Ballabh Pant was an Indian freedom fighter and one of the architects of modern India. Alongside Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Vallabh Bhai Patel, Pant was a key figure in the movement for India's Independence and later a pivotal figure in the Indian Government. 

He was 

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh during 1950-54 and Home Minister of India during 1955-61.

As Home Minister, his chief achievement was the                    re-organisation of States along linguistic lines. 

He was awarded India's highest honour,  BHARAT RATNA on 26 January 1957.

He was born on this day,  September 10th,  in 1887 and died on March 7, 1961.
