"The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence."
- Rabindranath Tagore, awarded the 1913 Nobel Prize in Literature.
Tagore was born on 7 May 1861 in Calcutta, India. He dedicated his life to poetry, art and music, composing the Indian national anthem as well as the national anthem of Bangladesh. He started writing poetry at the age of 8. When he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913, he became the first non-European to be awarded a Nobel Prize.
Tagore was also interested in learning and educational system. His educational philosophy put emphasis on naturalism. Tagore believed that education should be imparted in natural surroundings.
We'll be taking our own look at education in this year's Nobel Week Dialogue on 9 December. Join us to find out more about the challenge of learning and be inspired by experts from across the globe. Learn more about the event: https://bit.ly/3oxZ6Ly
