At the age of 23, before she’d even earned her PhD, Carol Greider made the discovery that would earn her the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
Along with her supervisor and co-laureate Elizabeth Blackburn she discovered the enzyme telomerase. At each end of a chromosome lies a protective "cap" called a telomere – telomerase is the enzyme that creates it.

Pale Blue Dot is a photograph of planet Earth taken in
1990 by the Voyager 1 spaceprobe from a record distance of about 6 billion
kilometers (3.7 billion miles) from Earth, as part of the solar system Family
Portrait series of images. In the photograph, Earth is shown as a fraction of a
pixel (0.12 pixel in size) against the vastness of space. The Voyager 1
spacecraft, which had completed its primary mission and was leaving the Solar
System, was commanded by NASA to turn its camera around and to take a
photograph of Earth across a great expanse of space, at the request of Carl
Sagan.Subsequently, the title of the photograph was used by Sagan as the main
title of his 1994 book, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space.

Bruce Lee could flow like water and spin nunchucks like no one else.
Thanks to his mind-blowing kicks and lightning-fast speed, the man became a
star in the span of just a few years. But in an unfortunate twist of fate,
Bruce Lee never lived to see his big moment. Here's the truth behind Bruce
Lee's tragic death.
Bruce Lee was practically made for the movies. As a kid growing up in
Hong Kong, Lee was a prolific child actor, playing in around 20 films. And when
he moved back to his birth country of the United States, he opened martial arts
schools, taught stars including Steve McQueen, and even donned a black mask and
started fighting crime.
Playing Kato on The Green Hornet, Lee introduced kung fu to the
American mainstream. Unfortunately, the series only lasted 26 episodes and
failed to launch him into the big time. Frustrated by Hollywood executives
passing him over or giving him bit parts, Lee packed his bags and returned to
Hong Kong, where he discovered he was the most famous man alive. The Green Hornet
was so popular in his homeland that it was known as The Kato Show, and soon Lee
was getting leading man parts in Hong Kong films.
Lee's first film as a lead actor was The Big Boss, which became the
highest-grossing movie in Hong Kong history. It held that record until Lee's
second film, Fist of Fury, came along. Soon after, Lee even got a chance to
direct, working on both sides of the camera for Way of the Dragon. After just
three films, Lee was suddenly the king of Asian cinema, and Hollywood finally decided
they wanted to be in the Bruce Lee business. WIKIPEDIA ON BRUCE LEE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Lee

ANTÓNIO GUTERRES (UN SECRETARY-GENERAL) video message for Nelson
Mandela International Day 2020
Each year, on Nelson’s Mandela’s birthday, we pay tribute to an
extraordinary global advocate for equality, dignity and solidarity.
Madiba was a moral giant of the 20th century, whose timeless legacy
continues to guide us today.
The theme of Nelson Mandela International Day is “Take action, inspire
change”.
It highlights the importance of working together, from governments to
citizens, to build a peaceful, sustainable and equitable world.
We mark this day at a time when the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic
endangers everyone, everywhere, and especially the most vulnerable.
In the face of these challenges, world leaders need to recognize the
vital importance of unity and solidarity.
COVID-19 is exposing deep inequalities.
We need to fight this pandemic of inequality through a new social
contract for a new era.
Only together can we fend off the common threat of COVID and recover
better.
As the United Nations marks its 75th anniversary in this fragile time,
we reflect on the life and work of Nelson Mandela, who embodied the highest
values of the United Nations and who took action and inspired change.
Despite many years as a prisoner of conscience, Madiba retained his
dignity and commitment to his ideals.
Let his example propel any governments that keep such prisoners to
release them.
There should be no prisoners of conscience in the 21st century.
Nelson Mandela reminded us that: “As long as poverty, injustice and
gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest.”
On this Mandela Day, let us recall that we can, and must, be part of
the quest for a better future of dignity, opportunity and prosperity for all
people on a healthy planet.

NATIONS, ANTÓNIO GUTERRES (UN SECRETARY-GENERAL) and YouTube.
